toastIT’S BACK!
New time! New venue! In partnership with VIVO

Remember being a kid, getting up early on Saturday with a bowl of Cookie Crisp and watching Smurfs, Transformers and Battle of the Planets?

Second Level Wizards is proud to announce the return of the Saturday Morning Cartoon Party, in which you can relive those memories. Starting at 11:10 on Saturday March 10 at VIVO Media Arts Centre on Main St (@ 4th Ave) we’ll be showing classic TV fare from the 70’s, 80’s and elsewhen along with bowls of Frankenberry, Cap’n Crunch, Trix and all your other cartoon-mascotted cereals. After a healthy dose of nostalgic toons, we’ll be screening the classic feature-length animated fantasy “A Flight of Dragons.” A young scientist (voiced by Three’s Company’s John Ritter) from the present is brought back in time by the Green Wizard (Harry Morgan) to help stop the evil Red Wizard (voiced by Darth Vader himself, James Earl Jones) and his dragon allies from taking over the world.

What cartoons will we be showing? You’ll have to show up to find out, but previous guests know that we’ve shown Scooby Doo, Popeye, Bugs Bunny, 1940’s Superman, NFB’s Log Driver’s Waltz and many many others. Plus we’ll have contemporary commercials and PSAs. Don’t drown your food!

CTHULHUPALOOZA UPDATE
We’re postponing Cthulhupalooza II: Son of Cthulhupalooza until after the 2010 Olympics. The good news is that this should allow us to make the event a much larger and more awesome event. We’re still looking for horror films, and they don’t just have to be Lovecraftian, so if you’ve made a student film or won a Bloodshots 48 hour horror film competition, we want to hear about it.

SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON PARTY. We’re hoping to do another cartoon party in November, but are sussing out alternate venues. If you are affiliated with any theatres or video-friendly galleries/spaces please contact us.

Filmmaker Paul Devlin follows the story of his brother, Mark Devlin PhD, as he leads a tenacious team of scientists hoping to figure out how all the galaxies formed by launching a revolutionary new telescope under a NASA high-altitude balloon.

Their adventure takes them from Arctic Sweden to Inuit polar bear country in Canada, where catastrophic failure forces the team to try all over again on the desolate ice in Antarctica. No less than the understanding of the evolution and origins of our Universe is at stake on this exciting escapade that seeks to answer humankind’s most basic question, How did we get here?

BLAST! is about the crazy life of scientists. Their professional obsessions, personal and family sacrifices, and philosophical and religious questioning all give emotional resonance to a spectacular and suspenseful story of space exploration.
